The peaceful manatee is the embodiment of "do no harm," yet many are severely injured by boat propellers invading their habitat. The luckier manatees have their wounds tended and then are released back into the wild. The Columbus Zoo in Columbus, Ohio, is the first zoo approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a partner institution in its Manatee Recovery Program, and one manatee, Comet, has already been released back into the wild. Adopting a manatee will help defray the cost of caring for the gentle giants, and a Wee Beastie manatee will be among your rewards. |
