“Happy Meal” is the eighth box figurine in the eagerly anticipated “Black Box” series. The piece came about after Peter read an article on piranhas. One story, probably apocryphal, told of a cow being stripped to the bone in ten minutes. Peter’s piece portrays a cow that doesn’t believe this is possible so sets about timing the piranhas. Notice the watch on her hoof. The “unhappy meal” carton on the base describes her mood when she realises the flaw in her experiment. This Black Box also takes a swipe at the fast food industry. Eating straight from the cow would be the ultimate fast food. Notice the words “Moody Cow” under a hoof. This is a web site that came up when Peter searched for “cow skeletons”. He suggests that it be viewed only if you are into wife swapping. No. 4 refers to Peter’s son, who was celebrating his 4th birthday during the carving of this piece. The prisoner in the ribcage is Peter’s daughter Millie. The ribcage reminded him of the bars on Millie’s cot where she waits to be freed each morning. “Mr. I” is in homage to The Incredibles, the first film that Peter took Sam to see. Open the lid to see a school of piranha reading through a kid’s menu.
