With their soft feathers, forward-facing eyes and sharp talons, owls are the ultimate nighttime hunters. This beautiful barn owl looks somewhat nonplussed to discover that it has just caught a clockwork mouse. The S.F. initials inscribed on the toy show that it formerly belonged to Samuel Frederick (Calvesbert), the artist’s son, before winding up in the bird’s claws. This Royal Watch members-only box figurine also features the return of the discarded tin can, found on many older HK pieces as a reminder of humankind’s impact on the environment. Inside are the hapless victims of the day – loads of mice.
