Philip Astley invented the circus ring in 1766 by training his horse to canter in a circle 13 meters in diameter at a constant speed, providing just the right amount of centrifugal force to achieve the most grace and balance. It was Astley’s idea to intersperse physical feats with the antics of a clown, and it was one of Astley’s riders who named the circus by using the Latin word for ring. The Harmony Circus Ring is made up of 12 individual components, one of which opens to reveal a hidden compartment. Hallmarks include diamond, clock face with month 2, HBC logo, and DL. |
